Description of the
Workshop:
The project “Break the silence” is an
integrative workshop that will bring together both deaf and hearing adults. The
main topic of the workshop will be culture in different points of view, through
which we would like to show that deaf and hearing worlds are alike. Culture is
a great tool how to integrate different groups of people and the workshop will
be an innovative international learning experience. The mix between the 2
worlds: people who cannot hear and the ones who can will be an enrichment for
all the participants and other people outside the group, breaking certain
barriers and prejudices. During the workshop, we will use creative pedagogical
tools like theatre, music, poetry and other cultural workshops in order to
create a group dynamics, learn more about the cultures of deaf and hearing
people and to empower participants. We will also concentrate together on
intercultural learning. The non-verbal communication will be used as a working
method and international sign language will be taught to all the participants.
Expected learning
outcomes:
The target group of the workshop are adults with
special needs (deaf or hearing impaired people). As the workshop will be
integrative, we plan to include also hearing people coming from vulnerable
social backgrounds and who have specific learning needs. Hearing participants
should either have any experience with deaf world (family member, working in
this field) or be interested and motivated to learn about it more. The
methodology of the workshop and programme will be of course adapted to their
needs. Special attention will be paid to communication, where we will ensure
that each participant feels comfortable in the group and there are no
communication barriers.
Participants will be encouraged to take part in follow-up
projects in the NGO sphere, valorising their new competences, and they will be
provided with support and coaching to implement their own project ideas if
requested. The workshop will encourage adult learners to use their skills and
potential in the civil society.

boarding:
Participants will be accommodated in Hotel
Krystal in Prague in single or double rooms with participants from different
countries in order to facilitate the intercultural experience. Accommodation is arranged from 27th
